Drawing on the Power of the Word
Drawing on the Power of the Word is a text used in the third year of the Junior Youth Spiritual Empowerment Programme. It explores concepts related to speech and action and the influence they exert on social progress.
The story follows the meetings of a fictional junior youth group who discuss the way words are used, identify the importance of linking words to noble deeds, and explore ideas related to family, friendship, education, as well as material and spiritual progress. A visit by a newspaper reporter who writes an article about the group's activities leads to conversation about the media.

What is a Junior Youth Group?
The Junior Youth Spiritual Empowerment Programme is a three-year programme for 12-15 year-olds which fosters a positive transition from childhood to adolescence. Junior youth engage by joining or forming a group, which often comprises 5-10 young people in a given locality, and usually meets at least weekly.
Participants learn to identify the needs of their community and to find ways to respond to them through increasingly complex and meaningful acts of service. They study together a series of modules which can provide them with the elements of a conceptual framework that will guide their choices and actions as they mature into adults. Purposeful social, sport and artistic activities also constitute a key element of the programme. See here for more information.
