The Half of it was Never Told

As the 19th century began, religious people of all persuasions drew strength from the writings of their Faiths, such as the Bible and the Qur’án. But there was another aspect of these ancient Books which had preoccupied and intrigued people for millennia: the prophecies. These promised not only a time of renewal, but also the appearance of a redemptive figure who would enable that renewal to flourish; and those studying them believed that the time was close, very close.

Expectations gripped the hearts of believers on both sides of the Atlantic and in the Middle East, and before long they were being swept along on a mounting tide of anticipation. As the era of Adventism was born, hundreds of thousands of people watched – and waited.

About Carolyn Sparey Fox

Carolyn Sparey Fox is a professional musician and author living in Scotland. During her long musical career she has worked extensively in London, where she performed for the first London production of Jesus Christ Superstar, and in Scotland, as principal viola with the Scottish Chamber orchestra and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.

As an author, Carolyn’s first two books, published by George Ronald, The Half of it was Never Told and Seeking a State of Heaven, focus on the fascinating history of Adventism during the 19th Century, particularly in North America, Britain, and Europe. Carolyn’s inspiration for writing children’s stories was the birth of her granddaughter, and the third of these, ’Abdu’l-Bahá’s Little Brown Cat, was written in commemoration of the centenary of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá’s passing in November 1921.
